🌍 About Hurghada
Hurghada isn't a sightseeing town — it's a base for the Red Sea reefs right offshore, with some of the best wreck diving anywhere. Day boats run out to the SS Thistlegorm, a British WWII cargo ship sunk in 1941 and still full of motorbikes and trucks, and the Giannis D wreck on Abu Nuhas reef. Most of the coast is a 20km strip of resorts, but El Dahar, the old town up north, is the one genuinely Egyptian part: a souq, a Coptic cathedral, and a fish market where you pick your catch and have it grilled on the spot — better than any hotel buffet. Come March–May or October–November: warm water, calm seas, clear visibility. July–August hits 38°C and is punishing. Winter is mild and cheapest, but bring a wetsuit — the water cools and the wind picks up.
