🌍 About Rio de Janeiro
Rio sits jammed between the Atlantic and forested granite peaks — Tijuca, behind the city, is one of the world's largest urban forests, and Sugarloaf is reached by a cable car running since 1912. The beaches are socially zoned: Ipanema is where cariocas actually go, Copacabana is louder and more touristy. Eat feijoada, the black-bean-and-pork stew traditionally served at Saturday lunch in old botecos, not as a weeknight dinner. Skip the overpriced beachfront restaurants; the good food is a block or two inland. Come April–May or September–October: warm, drier, thinner crowds, and the cheapest fares — the shoulder months are genuinely the best ones. December–March is hot and the rainiest stretch, worth it only for Carnival in late February.
