🌍 About Dhaka

Dhaka runs on cycle rickshaws — hundreds of thousands of them, hand-painted with film stars, water lilies and skylines, a folk craft UNESCO added to its heritage list in 2023. The place to go is Old Dhaka, the dense Mughal-era south near the Buriganga river, where Lalbagh Fort and the pink Ahsan Manzil palace sit among lanes too narrow for cars. Eat kacchi biryani here: mutton and fragrant rice slow-cooked sealed in one pot, not the lighter fried version — Haji Biryani is the old name everyone argues about. It's an intense, crowded, loud city, not a polished one. Come November to February, the cool dry winter and the only comfortable window. Skip June to September, when the monsoon floods streets, and the hot, sticky pre-monsoon spring.
