🌍 About Queenstown
Queenstown is where commercial bungy jumping was invented: AJ Hackett opened the world's first operation off the Kawarau Bridge in 1988, a 43m drop over the river about 25 minutes out of town, and you can still jump it. The town sits on Lake Wakatipu under the jagged Remarkables range, and it runs on adrenaline — jet boats, skydiving, paragliding. For food, the queue at Fergburger is real and the burgers earn it; go off-peak to skip the wait. Two real seasons: December–February brings warm days for hiking and the lake, but it's the priciest and busiest; June–August is ski season for Coronet Peak and The Remarkables. The best value is autumn (March–April), when fares ease and the poplars turn gold.
