🌍 About Bologna
Bologna is where "spaghetti bolognese" doesn't exist — order tagliatelle al ragù, the flat egg pasta that actually holds the meat sauce, and skip anything calling itself "bolognese" on a tourist menu. The city is wrapped in nearly 40km of porticoes, covered arcades UNESCO-listed in 2021, so you can cross the centre in rain or August sun without ever getting wet. It's also home to the world's oldest university, founded 1088, which keeps the place full of students and cheap osterie rather than gift shops. Climb the Asinelli tower for the rooftop view over a genuinely red-brick city. Come mid-September to October: warm days, the new harvest on plates, thinner crowds. Avoid July–August — the Po Valley turns hot and humid, and locals leave in August anyway.
