🌍 About Belgrade

Belgrade sits where the Sava meets the Danube, and Kalemegdan — the old fortress on the bluff above the confluence — is the one sight that earns the climb, as much for the river view as the ramparts. The city's real signature is its nightlife: roughly 170 splavovi, floating clubs moored along both rivers, that run loud and late through summer. Eat ćevapi, the grilled minced-meat fingers, with kajmak (a clotted-cream cheese) and ajvar (roasted red-pepper relish) — order it in a kafana in Skadarlija, the cobbled tavern street that's been the bohemian quarter since the 1830s. Come in May–June or September: warm, lively, and not yet baked. July–August is hot and crowded; winters are genuinely cold. Serbia is cheap, so a deal fare goes a long way once you land.
