🌿 Khareef season highlight (Jul-Aug)

These dates land inside Salalah’s Khareef — the monsoon that turns the entire Dhofar region green from late June through early September. Waterfalls flow at Wadi Darbat, mist rolls over the Salalah mountains, and frankincense farms come alive. It is the only place on the Arabian Peninsula that gets monsoon rain, and the temperature stays a mild 22-27 °C while Dubai sits at 40 °C+. Locals from across the Gulf flock here, so hotels and rental cars book out fast — secure both at the same time you book this flight. A 1h 35m onward hop from Muscat on the same SalamAir ticket; the 7-9 hour layover in Muscat (both legs) is enough to dip into the city if you want a 2-for-1 trip.

Salalah is the one corner of Arabia that catches the Indian Ocean monsoon. From late June to September the "khareef" wraps the Dhofar hills in drizzle and fog and turns them green — while the rest of the Gulf bakes — which is exactly why Gulf families pour in then. It's also the historic frankincense heartland: the trees are still tapped in Wadi Dawkah, and the Al Baleed ruins and Land of Frankincense museum sit right on the Salalah seafront. Eat mashuai — a whole kingfish (kanad) spit-roasted and served on lemon rice. Two honest windows: khareef (July–September) for the surreal green and cool mist, but expect crowds, grey skies and higher fares; or October–February for sunny warmth and empty beaches. Skip the green if you came for clear sky.
