Walk the 9th Street Italian Market while you're down there: nine blocks of family-run produce, cheese, and spice stalls, the oldest outdoor market in the country. Come April–May or September–October for mild days; the market's cherry blossoms peak late March. Summers are heavy and humid, January grey — fine if cheap fares land then and you don't mind layering up.
