🌍 About Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh sits where the Tonlé Sap and Mekong rivers meet, and the riverside promenade is where the city actually gathers at dusk. The two sights that matter most are sobering, not pretty: Tuol Sleng, the former S-21 prison, and the Choeung Ek killing fields tell the Khmer Rouge story plainly — go, even though it's hard. Eat kuy teav, the pork-broth rice-noodle soup locals have for breakfast, usually with quail eggs, bean sprouts and a squeeze of lime. One practical note: flights now land at the new Techo International Airport, opened September 2025 about 20 km south of the city — further out than the old airport, so budget extra transfer time. Come November to February for dry, relatively cool days; March to May is punishingly hot, and June to October is the wet season.
