Shanghai is the great east-meets-west city — 25 million people split between Puxi's tree-lined French Concession lanes and Pudong's futuristic skyline, the two sides facing each other across the Huangpu River. The Bund, the colonial-era waterfront, is the city's most photographed walk — art deco bank facades on one side, the Shanghai Tower (the world's second-tallest building, at 632 metres) lit up on the other.
