Tbilisi is named after its hot springs — "tbili" means warm — and the place to feel that is Abanotubani, a cluster of low brick domes poking out of the ground in the old town. Under them are public sulfur bathhouses fed by naturally hot springs; a communal soak costs about ₾5, a private room more. Eat khinkali, the fist-sized soup dumplings you grab by the twisted top knot, bite, slurp the broth, and never eat the doughy stem. Come May–June or September–October: warm, dry, and the hills around the city are green.
