🌍 About Kraków

Kraków came through WWII almost undamaged, so the medieval core is the real thing, not a reconstruction. Rynek Główny is the largest medieval square in Europe, with the Cloth Hall trading in its center as it has for centuries. Every hour a trumpeter plays the hejnał from St. Mary's tower and stops mid-note — marking a 13th-century trumpeter shot in the throat sounding the alarm. Skip the square's tourist restaurants; head to Kazimierz, the old Jewish quarter, and eat a zapiekanka from the round Okrąglak kiosk on Plac Nowy — a toasted half-baguette with mushrooms and cheese. Grab an obwarzanek, the chewy ring-shaped street bread that's EU-protected to Kraków alone.
