Sydney, Australia to Amsterdam, Netherlands from $1185

🌍 About amsterdam

About Amsterdam, Netherlands Amsterdam's canal houses are tall and absurdly narrow because 17th-century plots were taxed on façade width, so merchants built up rather than out — leaning the fronts slightly forward and fitting a hoisting hook at the gable to winch furniture up through the windows, since the internal stairs are far too steep to carry anything. You'll spot the hooks all along the canal ring. Skip the coffeeshop clichés; the real street food is haring — raw new-season herring with chopped onion and pickles, eaten in a few bites at a fish stall — plus bitterballen, crisp fried beef-ragout balls, with a beer. Come in April: Keukenhof's tulip gardens run March 19–May 10 in 2026, peaking mid-month, and it's the one time the flat landscape outside the city earns the trip. Summer is crowded and dear; winter is grey but cheap.
