🌍 About Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik's old town is ringed by a complete 2km wall you can walk the whole way around — that circuit, not the streets below, is the thing to do, and going at opening time (8am) beats both the heat and the cruise crowds. Order crni rižot, the black risotto stained dark with cuttlefish ink, or mussels done buzara-style in garlic, white wine and breadcrumbs. The walls cost around €35, which stings, but it's the one ticket worth it. Come in May, early June, or mid-September to October: warm enough to swim, and the cruise ships thin out. Avoid July and August, when up to five ships a day unload 10,000 people into a town that small. The quieter months are also the cheaper-fare ones — book then.
