🌍 About Mount Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa (5,895m) and the highest free-standing peak in the world — you climb it without ropes, just legs and lungs. Most people fly into JRO and base in Moshi, a low-key town on the southern slopes. Two routes dominate: Machame, the harder, prettier "Whiskey route" that about half of all climbers take, and Marangu, the gentler "Coca-Cola route" and the only one with sleeping huts. The slopes are Chagga country — eat mtori, their banana-and-beef stew — and grow some of Tanzania's best arabica coffee. Come in the dry months, January to early March or June to October, for clear trails and summit views; skip the long rains of late March to May, when the mountain is socked in and slippery.
