🌍 About Batumi
Batumi is the capital of Adjara, the corner of Georgia where Adjaruli khachapuri comes from — the boat-shaped cheese bread with a runny egg and a knob of butter stirred in at the table. Order it here, where it's the local thing, not a novelty. The city is openly the casino capital of the Black Sea: gambling is banned in Turkey, so over a dozen casinos draw Turkish, Russian and Middle Eastern players, and the seafront skyline is a jumble of glass towers because of it. Worth knowing: the beach is pebble, not sand. Come June to September for swimming and warm subtropical evenings — but Batumi is one of the wettest places on the coast, so pack for sudden downpours even in summer. Winter is grey, wet, and half-shut.
