The rule, in Ethiopian’s own words

“Passengers having transit time between 8hrs to 24hrs are accommodated at the hotel regardless of availability of alternative flights with shorter connecting time. Eligible passengers can collect their hotel voucher at origin station with no additional cost.”

That single clause is why this guide exists. Every other Middle East and European carrier in this series uses the opposite rule. Turkish says you are ineligible if a shorter connection was available even if that flight was fully booked. Gulf Air voids the entitlement if a connection existed within 7 hours. Royal Jordanian does the same below 8. Ethiopian explicitly does not — a long Addis layover you chose deliberately still earns the hotel.

Two genuine gaps, and we are not filling them. Ethiopian’s transit-service paragraph is short. It does not publish cabin or booking-class restrictions, and it does not name the hotel that transit passengers are sent to. Other sites state both confidently; Ethiopian’s own page does not, so neither do we. Confirm at booking if either decides your trip.

The Skylight in-terminal hotel — a separate thing worth knowing about

Ethiopian operates the Skylight In-Terminal Hotel at Addis with 97 rooms across five categories, including suites with a living or dining area. Rooms include complimentary Wi-Fi, a stocked minibar, a safe, a walk-in shower, bathrobe and slippers, and complimentary coffee, tea and bottled water.

Do not assume the free transit voucher puts you here. Ethiopian describes the Skylight hotel in the same place as the transit service but never links the two.
