Different programme, different desk, and you do not apply in advance. If Turkish’s own schedule leaves you a long connection at Istanbul, it houses you. Note that Turkish spells out the transfers-and-a-meal package for Economy passengers specifically; for Business it states the hour threshold and the entitlement to accommodation without listing what comes with it, so confirm the extras at the desk rather than assuming.

How to claim it

Go to the Hotel Desk inside the terminal on the arrivals level at Istanbul Airport. There is no advance application. Bring the connecting ticket — the service is for passengers on the same confirmed ticket, and it covers codeshare flights where Turkish Airlines is the operating carrier.

• Turkish picks the hotel from its contracted list — you do not choose.
• Under 18s are not admitted to hotels unless accompanied by an adult.

If your layover is 6 to 24 hours, Turkish runs free city tours every day of the year. Guide, meals, transport and museum entrance fees are all covered. For a daytime connection this beats a hotel room you would barely sleep in.

The timing that decides whether you make it

This is where Touristanbul goes wrong for people, and the numbers are Turkish’s own:

• Report to the Touristanbul Registration Desk on the arrivals floor at least 30 minutes before the tour departs — even if you booked online.
• Allow about 45 minutes to walk from your arrival gate to that desk, passport control included.
• Be back at Departures 1 hour 25 minutes before your onward flight.

Add those up against a 6-hour layover and the margin is thin. A 6-hour connection realistically fits only the shortest tour, if the timings line up at all.

You need a Turkish Airlines ticket starting 235, both flights on the same PNR, and an international-to-international connection. Book online with your PNR or ticket number and surname to see the tours you are eligible for.

The visa trap that voids all three

Two more costs that catch people out on the Stopover programme specifically: visa fees and the transport between airport and hotel are yours to pay. That is the opposite of the Hotel Service programme, where transfers are included. And if your Istanbul transfer runs over 24 hours, you must collect your baggage at Istanbul Airport.
