Hotel, a meal and transfers on an 8-hour economy connection. RJ lists the eligible booking classes letter by letter, and unusually award tickets are explicitly included where most airlines exclude them.

📅 Delay of 4h+ can re-qualify you
Last verified: August 2026, against Royal Jordanian’s own live Transit Accommodation page (fetched 9 August 2026) — not an archive copy. RJ can change these terms; confirm with your nearest RJ office before relying on them.

Most airlines describe their transit hotel in marketing language and leave you to discover the exclusions at the desk. Royal Jordanian does the opposite: it publishes the eligible booking classes as literal letters, a transit-time table, and what happens when its own delay creates your long layover. That makes this the easiest programme in the series to check before you buy.

What you get, by transit length
RJ publishes this as a table, and it is worth reading literally — the six-to-eight hour band gets a meal, not a bed.
| Transit time at QAIA | What RJ provides | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Under 6 hours | Nothing offered | — |
| 6 – 8 hours | Hot meal at the airport, where the procedure applies | Any eligible cabin |
| 6 – 24 hours | Full hotel accommodation | Full-fare Crown (business) only |
| 8 – 24 hours | Full hotel accommodation | Economy and Premium Economy |
| Over 24 hours | You pay — RJ stops covering it | All |
Note the wording on the headline benefit: RJ says it may provide hotel accommodation, a meal, and ground transportation to and from the airport hotel. Transfers being included puts it ahead of Etihad’s stopover, where you pay your own way into the city.
The fare classes — check yours before you book
This is the part no other airline in this series spells out. RJ names the classes:
| Cabin | Eligible booking classes |
|---|---|
| Economy | Q, N, S, V, L, M, K, H, B, Y — published, non-promo fares |
| Premium Economy | W, F |
| Business (Crown) | J, C, D, I, Z |
| Award tickets | U and X — explicitly eligible |
| Upgraded tickets | U class upgrades are eligible |
The shorter-connection rule, and the North America exception
Like Turkish and Gulf Air, RJ withdraws the benefit if it could have connected you sooner: layover services are not provided when a same-day connection exists and your connection is under 8 hours (economy and premium economy) or under 6 hours (business).
Two more mechanics worth knowing: connecting time is calculated from the scheduled time of arrival, and you must be booked on the first scheduled RJ flight onward. RJ also caps its exposure at a maximum of two transfer points, one of which must be Amman, and at one night.
It is not only Amman
RJ extends layover services at its North America gateways — JFK, ORD, DTW, IAD, DFW, YUL and YYZ — and at Bangkok, under one governing distinction:
- Where your connecting flight is on another airline and RJ is the delivering carrier, the procedure applies.
- Where RJ is the receiving carrier, you are not entitled to layover services.
- In the USA, hotel vouchers are issued by USA stations only.
If you do not qualify
RJ makes an allowance the other carriers in this series mostly do not: passengers who are not eligible for a hotel voucher can purchase one at the transit desk in QAIA. There is no published price, so treat it as a fallback to ask about on arrival rather than something to budget precisely.
Frequently asked questions
Does Royal Jordanian give a free hotel for a long layover in Amman?
Yes, on qualifying tickets. RJ may provide hotel accommodation, a meal and ground transport to and from the airport hotel when your transit at Queen Alia International is 8 to 24 hours in economy or premium economy, or 6 to 24 hours in full-fare Crown class.
Which Royal Jordanian fare classes qualify?
Published non-promo economy classes Q, N, S, V, L, M, K, H, B and Y; premium economy W and F; business J, C, D, I and Z. Award tickets in U and X are explicitly eligible, as are U-class upgrades. Group bookings, promotional fares in O, P, R and W, and rebated industry tickets are excluded.
Are award tickets eligible for the Royal Jordanian transit hotel?
Yes. RJ states that passengers travelling on issued award tickets in U and X classes are eligible for hotel accommodation, and that upgraded tickets on U class qualify as well. That is unusual — many airlines exclude award bookings from stopover benefits.
What if my layover is longer than 24 hours?
You pay. RJ covers a maximum of one night and states that passengers bear the expenses if connection time exceeds 24 hours. You must also be booked on the first scheduled RJ flight onward.
Why was I refused the hotel on a long connection?
The most common reasons are a same-day connection being available while your connection was under the 8-hour or 6-hour threshold, holding two separate tickets rather than one itinerary, travelling on a promotional or group fare, or not having a confirmed reservation on the onward flight. Passengers travelling to or from North America are exempt from the same-day-connection rule.
Does Royal Jordanian cover layovers outside Amman?
Yes, at its North America gateways — JFK, ORD, DTW, IAD, DFW, YUL and YYZ — and at Bangkok, but only where RJ is the delivering carrier and your onward flight is on another airline. Where RJ is the receiving carrier there is no entitlement. In the USA, vouchers are issued by USA stations only.
Can I buy a hotel if I am not eligible?
Yes. RJ states that passengers who are not eligible for a hotel voucher can purchase one at the transit desk in QAIA. No price is published, so ask on arrival.
