What TAP actually gives you
The Portugal Stopover Programme lets you break a TAP long-haul journey in Lisbon or Porto for up to 10 days, on the outbound or the return, at no additional airfare. TAP notes it has been voted the world’s best stopover programme by Global Traveler readers for eight consecutive years.
On top of the stopover itself:
- 25% off any flight within Portugal, so you can add a second region. Book through TAP’s website or Contact Centre and the discount arrives by email after you complete the stopover booking; book through a travel agent and you get it when booking the domestic flight.

The hotel discounts, by tier
TAP’s partners page lists around 200 accommodation offers. These are the recognisable groups, sorted by the discount TAP publishes. Cities are deliberately not attributed here — the page groups partners by region in a way that does not survive cleanly, and sending you to the wrong city would be worse than making you check.

How to actually claim a discount — the part that is easy to get wrong

The mechanics vary by partner, and TAP spells them out individually. Typical instructions are “book via the partner’s email address”, “book through the desired hotel website using the promotional code”, or a phone booking. Each listing carries the partner’s phone number and email.
How to book the stopover
When you book a qualifying TAP flight at flytap.com, an “Add a free Stopover” option appears during booking. Choose Lisbon or Porto, pick your dates and duration up to 10 days, and choose whether the stop falls on the outbound or the return.
Is it worth it?
Judged as a hotel programme, TAP is the weakest entry in this series — you sleep at your own expense. Judged as a stopover programme it is arguably the strongest: ten days is far longer than Qatar’s four nights or Turkish’s two, and no other carrier here throws in a quarter off domestic flights so you can see a second region. If you were going to visit Portugal anyway, the airfare saving dwarfs a 15% hotel discount. If you were only looking for a free bed on a long connection, look at Turkish or Qatar instead.
